EAST LONDON (BEACON BAY), SOUTH AFRICA, October 23, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Coastline Hire, the Beacon Bay tool and plant hire company, has added industrial dehumidifiers (compact and large units) to its hire fleet for contractors, homeowners, guesthouses and property managers in East London and along the Eastern Cape coast.

Along the coast from Kidds Beach to Port Alfred, humidity is often very high, and a wet wall or floor can only dry as fast as the air around it absorbs the moisture. Opening windows does little when the air coming in is just as damp. A new sand and cement screed can take six weeks or more to dry on its own, and flooring laid on a screed that is still wet tends to lift. After a burst geyser or a storm, carpets and the bottom of the walls start to smell well before they dry.

The machines Coastline Hire now rents out are commercial refrigerant units on large wheels, built for building sites and restoration work. A compact unit for one or two rooms is rated at up to 50 L a day. A large unit for open-plan areas, halls and shops is rated at up to 90 L a day. Both run from a standard 220 V wall socket, with a 5 m drain hose that lets them run day and night into a floor drain, shower or bath. They defrost themselves in cold rooms and restart on their own when the power comes back after a cut, and on long power cuts a compact unit can run off one of Coastline Hire's portable generators so the drying doesn't stop.

After a leak or a storm, the standing water is usually out by the time the machines arrive. The hire team advises customers that the real problem is the moisture left hidden in the screed and the bottom of the walls, where the smell and mould start, and to keep the windows closed while the machine runs.

Most rooms dried after a leak need three to seven days, while new plaster and screeds often take one to three weeks depending on thickness and weather. The company hires by the day or the week, can swap a compact unit for a larger one mid-hire, and delivers and collects across East London, Beacon Bay, Gonubie, Kidds Beach, Qonce and Port Alfred. Quotes are based on room sizes and how long the machines are needed.
